Girl Made of StarsGirl Made of Stars by Ashley Herring Blake (author is a Nashvillian!)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4.5 Beautiful Stars (I waver between 4.5 and 5)

ONCE UPON A TIME…

There was Sister Twin and Brother Twin who loved each other to the stars and back. One day, Sister Twin heard that Brother Twin did something horrible. Had it not been a special someone that told this dark truth, Sister Twin would never have believed it.

Mara and Owen are twins and they are inseparable. They have a bond like no other. A bond that makes you examine the relationships you currently have and desire something so deep. They leave you wondering if this invisible string between them is real or something of fantasy.

Hannah, Charlie and Mara are the best of friends. While Charlie and Mara explore the new (and old) relationships they’re in, they also must face the ugly truth of what Hannah has revealed to them. But for Mara, it’s never just black and white. It’s her twin brother and her best friend. Two people who couldn’t possibly lie. Two people who should be believed, loved and trusted. Which one could Mara pick?

The parents, they will make you angry. So angry you don’t even want to read about them anymore. But you’ll forgive them. You’ll completely forgive them.

“Anyways,” he says, cracking his knuckles, “stars kept attaching themselves to Sister Twin. Soon, she had a necklace and a bracelet and a belt and shoes and a shirt and it was like she was glowing.”
“Glowing?”
“Yeah, because she’s made of stars. Get it?”
“But if I’m made of stars, then were am I? Where’s the real me?”………
“See, that’s the thing.” Owen says “When they got home, she was so happy, but when she tried to take off the stars to go to sleep, she couldn’t. The twins thought the stars were just covering her up, but that’s not what was going on.”
“Why not?”
“Because when they thought the stars were sticking to her, really all the loneliness and sadness were falling off. The stars were underneath.”
“Underneath what?”…..
“Everything else. All the bad stuff. She just had to remember who she was underneath everything. She glows – she’ll always glow……”
